Comic Book Store Details
Cryogenic Comics is an up-and-coming destination for comic book fans in the Baltimore area. The shop is owned by Steve, who is passionate about finding and sharing great comics.
Every single comic in Cryogenic Comic’s inventory is catalogued in an online database that you can view on your phone, tablet or computer. Call Steve at the number above if you want the database link or if you would like to schedule a time to visit Cryogenic’s store in Catonsville.
Just ask and Steve will provide you with the house number the shop is located at.
How much do things cost here?
The issues at Cryogenic Comics range from 50 cents (coverless or poor condition) all the way to thousands of dollars each (valuable first appearances or rare issues). Read the product selection section for more details.
The sticker price for every priced comic is listed in the Cover Price field in Cryogenic’s online database. The database also contains a list of all the issues that have not been priced in a separate tab.
Most of those issues are worth $5 or less, but it is possible to find an issue or two worth $10 or more. Steve will price any un-priced issue that you select as quickly and fairly as he can. Most of the time he’ll look at the condition of the issue and quote a price. In some cases, he will look at sold ebay listings in order to determine a fair price for the same issue in similar condition. He will then price the issue lower than those sold prices.
When you buy 4 or more issues priced at $2 or more, you get a discount on your order. The discount is not a set percentage, the discount will increase as the total sticker price of your stack increases. The sticker price of their wall books (generally $70 or higher) is often negotiable. He WILL NOT raise the price of an issue right before you buy it! However, if the market price of an issue is much lower than the sticker price on the issue, Steve will do his best to lower the price to the current market value.
How’s the product selection here?
They have a few Golden Age issues, but most are from the Silver Age to the current year.
They do not order brand new issues from distributors each week. Cryogenic’s issues are all alphabetized and separated by price. There are 50 cent boxes, $1 boxes, $2 to $9 boxes, $10 and up boxes and then wall books that are priced at $70 and up.
Issues of a larger size like; graded comics, magazines and treasury sized issues are kept together. There’s a box just for Spawn volume 1 ($2 to $60), a Deadpool box (most are $2) and a box with Rick & Morty ($3 to $4) and Simpsons ($4 to $35) comics.
They have a box packed with modern age books suitable for kids and another box with kids books that are older. There are also several CLOSED boxes of adult comics that are clearly marked.
Two boxes are priced and there are several short boxes that are not priced yet. They also have a short box filled with Underground issues that are for adults only.
Collectibles & Action Figures
They do not sell collectibles or action figures, however they have a tag in their database for comic issues that are based on toys such as G.I. Joe, Transformers and Masters of the Universe.
Trading Cards, Manga, Anime & More
Cryogenic Comics has a Manga tag in their database attached to any comic book that’s of a Japanese manga or animé title. Aside from comic books and used comic book boxes, the only other item that they sell are hundreds of autographed 8×10 photos of actors and actresses. They are priced from $5 to $20 each. Steve can send you an inventory list of the actors he has in stock.
Is this place kid-friendly?
Yes. Since Cryogenic’s shop is located in his home, any young customers should be accompanied by their parent or guardian. No ambient music is playing in the shop, so you don’t need to worry about your kids hearing any adult language or lyrics.
Cryogenic Comics has boxes of issues just for kids and their adult boxes are closed, clearly labeled and are out of children’s reach.
